It began with the Intel® microprocessor, the invention that sparked a revolution. Intel's history of developing groundbreaking technology continues today. We attract the most brilliant minds in science to push the boundaries of innovation and further our position as the world's leader in semiconductor technology. Our passion is to create technology that changes the world.
Carry Small, Live Large is a vision of the mobile future. It is a vision of computing where our experiences—while we work, play and simply go about our daily routines—are greatly amplified and enriched. Through powerful, small form factor mobile devices that have new ways of interacting with the environment around them, offer new ways for users to interact with the device and provide new ways of experiencing internet based data and services, our daily personal entertainment, interactions with others and the environment around us will soon be greatly enhanced.
The Intel® Tera-scale Computing Research Program is a worldwide effort to advance computing technology for the next decade. By scaling multi-core architectures to 10s to 100s of cores and embracing a shift to parallel programming, we aim to improve performance, increase energy-efficiency, and make future applications more compelling and immersive.
As part of the Intel platform vision for architectural innovation, Intel is researching an Energy-Efficient System Architecture (EESA). EESA is a collection of technologies and architectural improvements that together will result in dramatically higher performance per watt for systems across market segments from small form factor to high performance servers. This research is concentrated on improving the power profile of Intel components, taking a systems approach to designing power efficient platforms, and collaborating with industry partners and customers to develop broader energy-efficient system solutions.
Helping Define 802.11n and other Wireless LAN Standards
IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks
Intel is working with standards leaders on ratifying 802.11n, a new faster version of the 802.11 standard. Ratification is expected in December 2009 and publication in early 2010. Products are already on the market adhering to the Wi-Fi Alliance*’s 802.11n draft 2.0 certification, demonstrating the wellspring of support for this upcoming standard.
Because our global infrastructure relies on the stability and consistent interoperability between devices, Intel invests significant resources in standards and initiatives while collaborating with global industry leaders to pioneer technological advances that both establish and maintain the highest level of standards-based innovation.
Business notebooks, desktops, and servers with Intel® technology redefine "streamlined" enabling great leaps in hardware-assisted security, manageability, and energy-efficient performance. Designed to solve some of the most unsolvable IT issues, Intel technologies help reduce deskside visits while enabling lower costs and increased productivity across the board.
Increasing manageability, security, and flexibility in IT environments, virtualization technologies like hardware-assisted Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT)¹ combined with software-based virtualization solutions provide maximum system utilization by consolidating multiple environments into a single server or PC. By abstracting the software away from the underlying hardware, a world of new usage models opens up that reduce costs, increase management efficiency, strengthen security, while making your computing infrastructure more resilient in the event of a disaster.
Notebook and desktop PCs with Intel® vPro™ technology enable IT to take advantage of hardware-assisted security and manageability capabilities that enhance their ability to maintain, manage, and protect their business PCs. And with the latest IT management consoles from Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) with native Intel vPro technology support, IT can now take advantage of enhanced features to manage notebooks over a wired or corporate wireless network- or even outside the corporate firewall through a wired LAN connection.
With new laptop PCs based on Intel® Centrino® 2 processor technology for the home, or Intel® Centrino® 2 with vPro™ technology for business, you'll experience a new breakthrough in mobile performance, enabled longer battery life, the future of wireless now with 802.11n standard, and more, right at your fingertips.‡ Delivering performance gains of up to 50%¹ enabled by a minimum 3MB Smart Cache and 1066MHz Front Side Bus, these laptops are equipped to handle everything from robust business to masterful multimedia and everything in between. And with Intel Centrino 2 processor technology, you'll make quick work of the toughest computing tasks like HD video encoding—up to 90% faster², so you can accomplish more without the wait.
WiMAX is the next-generation of wireless technology designed to enable pervasive, high-speed mobile Internet access to the widest array of devices including notebook PCs, handsets, smartphones, and consumer electronics such as gaming devices, cameras, camcorders, music players, and more. As the fourth generation (4G) of wireless technology, WiMAX delivers low-cost, open networks and is the first all IP mobile Internet solution enabling efficient and scalable networks for data, video, and voice. As a major driver in the support and development of WiMAX, Intel has designed embedded WiMAX solutions for a variety of mobile devices supporting the future of high-speed broadband on-the-go.
Intel® Graphics Technology provides a visually stunning experience optimized for Blu-ray* and HD video with Windows Vista* support¹ and comes standard with many notebooks, desktop computers and motherboards—without the need to add an external and costly graphics card.
